Track 2000 Grant Legacy Fund is very pleasured to announce grant support of £23,884 to The Squirrels Nest based in Tondu, Bridgend.
The aims of the Squirrel’s Nest is ‘’To relieve the charitable needs of persons residing in and around Bridgend suffering from depression, anxiety, grief and other mild to moderate mental illness or in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness by the provision of facilities for woodwork and recreation’’
The Squirrel’s Nest aims to provide a space where men could get together, work on practical projects and share stories based at the heart of the community in Tondu. It provides a place to hang out, socialize, do something practical and talk at the same time. Men can talk about health and life issues in an atmosphere that is comfortable. The majority of our members are older men but we also have older women members from the community too.
The Squirrel’s Nest is run as men’s shed project. The key benefit of men’s sheds is in decreasing social isolation, creating friendship, and enhancing self-esteem.
People come to the project for comradeship, socialization, to learn new things, to regain a sense of purpose in life, and to be able to contribute to their community.
The Squirrels Nest is run by its members for the benefit of its members, their families and the community. It is not for individual profit and all monies made are reinvested into the running of the Squirrels Nest.
Decisions are made on a fair and democratic basis. Cooperation is a key value of The Squirrels Nest.
Equal opportunities are core to our work as many of us have been victims of social stigma and discrimination outside our group. Our central principle of being non-judgmental allows us to be welcoming to all. Our constitution dictates that membership is open to anyone who supports the aims of the organization.
